Stash Fabrics Design Star: Round 3

Can you see it? The perfect color palette that suits every person, woman or man, boy or girl. A collection of fabric where everyone stops to look and admire – that captures the hearts of even the most manly men and girly girls, that would make soon to be parents gladly opt out of the gender reveal before the birthday.

This was the round 3 challenge presented to our remaining design stars and I can’t wait to show you what they came up with. But first, let’s take a moment to introduce you to their faces. Presenting our 9 design star finalists…

Meet Your Design Star Finalists

Along with their bundles this round, I asked them if they were a new addition to the crayon box, what color would they be and why. You can find their answers below the bundles they curated below to get a bit of a feel for their personalities. You can also stalk them on IG which is always fun. Either way, don’t forget to scroll all the way to the bottom and cast your vote for your top 2 most favorite gender neutral bundles!
Nisha
“Garnet (classy, sassy, and always on point)” – Nisha
Snow
“I would be orangesicle, a mix of tangerine and cream, because it makes me think of warm summer days, even in the coldest part of winter!” – Snow
Megan
“11 am fog – This is the pale, gray blue fog with a hint of sunny gold around the edges. It’s calm and simple, but with just a bit of surprise and sparkle hiding beneath the surface. 11 am fog likes to wake up slow and start the days quiet. It is full of quiet anticipation.” -Megan
Mathew
“The color I would be is Baby Poop Green. All my life, I’ve always gravitated toward the outcast type, partially because I’ve always felt like one myself and partially because it always hurt my core when I saw people being picked on, both of which I’ve experienced all too often myself. And that’s how I feel about Baby Poop Green. It just hasn’t been given it’s fair shake, so I’d do everything I could to let people know how awesome I was and that I really do get along with everyone in the Crayon Box.” – Mathew
Carmen
“I’d probably be Orange Peel. Orange evokes a taste and smell to me quicker and more strongly than any other colour…and I’m constantly thinking about food. I love citrus fruits, the band Pulp, and the fall season too. It’s bright, friendly and gender-neutral — orange you glad to have it around?;) (The pun just can’t be resisted!)” – Carmen
Ivy
“My new crayon color would be called blooming amethyst. It would be a soft and familiar color with a bit of unexpected brightness. Blooming amethyst reflects my nurturing, responsible mom self and represents my love of juxtaposition, surprise and color.” – Ivy
Jessica
“If I were a new addition to the crayon box, I’d be a cool slate blue-gray. I’m not ostentatious and often fly under the radar, but I like helping others and am the type to just put my head down and get to work. Blue-gray is a workhorse color that goes with just about anything and helps to really enliven other colors, making them pop and sing.” – Jessica
Kim
“I would probably be the crayon version of the “mystery markers” that change color- my color would change with my mood 🙂 but I would likely keep an almost constant green undertone. Mostly a lighter shade of green with a hint of blue, that would change to a darker tone when I’m angry or sad. I’d say this color because blue green can be a strong moody color or it can be nice and calming and refreshing with a sense of peace. (:” -Kim
Jenn
“If I were a new crayon in the box my color would be called Prismatic Peach. It is a fabulous new coloring technology. An iridescent and shimmery hue of pale orange that changes color as you view it from different angles and in varying light.” -Jenn

There you have it! Their best gender neutral bundles on their design walls at Stash Fabrics! Which one is your favorite???

Stash Fabrics Design Star Contest: Round 2

1

vin¡tage noun vin¡tage \ˈvin-tij\
1 :  a period of origin or manufacture
2 : of old and continuing interest, importance, or quality
3 : a season’s yield of grapes or wine from a vineyard

I don’t know about you, but I have a great appreciation for vintage things. Vintage sheets, vintage toys, vintage pyrex, vintage all the things please. In looking up the definition of vintage, I began to realize that as our round two theme, it might be a little broad. After all, everything falls into some “period of origin”, even modern day stuffs.

3

But I don’t want to limit it. I think it will be more interesting to see what vintage means to each of our Design Star finalists. They can use the images here as inspiration or find their own inspiration, but I think this will ensure that we have twelve superbly unique bundles to vote between.

2

Our design star finalists will have until September 27th to send me their bundle of 16 fabrics representing their idea of “vintage”, and then we will all reconvene here for a vote of your favorites. Remember that the last person standing in this competition will curate the final bundle of the club and be named our first ever design star!!! Wish them luck!

I’m just going to go ahead and say it. Our Design Star club and contest has already well exceeded my expectations. The bundles curated by the first four design stars have been stellar, and there were over 300 entries into the contest! And they were all amazing! Which is why it’s taken us almost a full month to make a decision…

Their challenge, should they choose to accept it, will be to design a new bundle in September that represents a predetermined theme that we will announce soon. Everyone else’s mission will be to come back and vote on your favorites once they are finished. So check back VERY soon for September’s theme!

And let me just say that we would love for you to continue sharing your design walls. So much in fact that we are going to keep an eye on the #stashfabricsdesignwall hashtag for bundles that wow us. We might even have a few little prizes along the way for featured bundles and you never know when your bundle might pop up in our little shop!

Gimme Kona Solids

The first year of our popular Kona club is coming to an end, which means it’s time to open up a new round for anyone looking to enhance their solid stash. Last year you had the option to accumulate nearly half of the colors of Kona Cotton from Robert Kaufman and this year we are adding the option to stash ALL the Kona colors currently available! Regardless of whether you are stashing half or all, each piece will be labelled with the color and you will receive a complimentary Kona Color Card with your 12th shipment as a thank you for building your Kona stash with us!

Space is limited and we will only be accepting new subscribers for this year through August 2016. The first bundle for each club will ship mid-September 2016.

Gimme All the Kona

You will receive 25 colors/month for 11 months in the cut of your choice. In the final month you will receive 29 colors and your complimentary Kona color card.

Gimme Half the Kona

You will receive 12 colors/month for 11 months in the cut of your choice. In the final month you will receive 20 colors and your complimentary Kona color card. At the end of the year, you will have the option to remain in the club for another year and receive the other half!

Please note: If you are already a member of the old Kona Club, rest assured that we will continue to send your bundles until you have received all 12 (a free color card will ship with your 12th month). If you prefer to switch to the new version during the sign up period, contact us about modifying your subscription and we can discuss your options. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that you will not receive duplicates from last year if you sign up for a new club this year.

Stash Fabrics Design Star Contest: Round 1

Have you seen them? All the beautiful bundles being created by all the creative people?!?

Design Star Round One

Round One of our Design Star Contest is in full swing! Contestants are vying for the chance to become our first ever Design Star and win a boatload of fabric (192 fat quarters!!) by curating clever bundles on their design walls on our site and sharing them on Facebook, Pinterest and/or Instagram using the hashtag #stashfabricsdesignstar. Each entry to the contest should be 16 fabrics of your choosing, and multiple entries are allowed and encouraged. We want to see your skills in curating unique and inspiring bundles!

The contest is open to everyone and there is only a little less than a month left to enter before we will be selecting our final 12 contestants to go on to the next round.

Here are a few pro tips on how to use the features of our website to create original bundles…

To get to your design wall, click the link in the Design Wall link in the upper right of your screen on our site. You do not have to have an account to create a design wall, but we recommend that you do to ensure that your design wall remains across sessions and devices.

On every fabric page, you have the option below the yardage selector to add the item to your design wall.

Also at the bottom of every fabric page, you will find a color selector that allows you to easily find other prints in our shop that match specific colors in the print.

This is what you see when you click the pink circle (the second one) above. You can specify the similarity and the amount that you want in your coordinating print. Use this to mix and match collections to your heart’s content! But be careful…it can be addicting! Just ask all the people who have caught the bug…

For full details on our Design Star Club and Contest, check out the previous post. You have until the end of July to enter the contest, and we still have a couple spots left in the club if you are interested in receiving an original curated bundle straight to your mailbox each month. For those that have already subscribed and/or entered the contest, thank you for playing along with us!

Stash Fabrics Design Star Club & Contest

DSHeader

Here at Stash Fabrics, we believe that curating beautiful fabric bundles is an art. The ability to mix and match colors and collections in a beautiful way does not always come easy or quick, and indecision or lack of time can lead to a stalled vision. Sure, you could just grab a full collection bundle and call it a day, but that can be hard on your wallet, and you run the risk of having a collection of prints that aren’t your favorites. And sometimes you just want a quick, mindless project – something you can work on during nap time or as the day is winding down to give you that instant feeling of gratification without all the planning and/or coming to terms with cutting into your most prized stash.

These are just a few reasons why we are very excited to announce our latest club and contest – Stash Fabrics Design Star!!

HeadshotsOnly

We have selected 11 talented peeps from the sewing industry to curate bundles for you fine people from the very best in modern fabric. Each bundle will consist of 12 amazing prints and 4 coordinating solids and will no doubt fill your heart with joy.  Here is the lineup…

June 2016 – Rita of Red Pepper Quilts
July 2016 – Holly of Bijou Lovely
August 2016 – Ashley of Film in the Fridge
September 2016 – Nicole of Lillyella Stitchery
October 2016 – Felice of Sew Scatterbrained
November 2016 – Nicole of Modern Handcraft
December 2016 – Anna of Noodlehead
January 2017 – Giuseppe of Giucy Giuce
February 2017 – Jennie of Clover & Violet
March 2017 – Sari of Sariditty Handmade
April 2017 – Jacey of JaceyCraft

As a member of the year long club, you will receive these beautifully curated bundles each month straight to your mailbox in either fat quarter or half yard cuts. In addition, the Stash Fabrics team will be working on quick projects throughout the month using the bundles with hopes of inspiring you to find the time to create with new, pretty fabric. This could be just what you need!

Hmmm, 11 design stars, 12 months…but who will select the bundle for that final month?!?

Here’s the magic…IT COULD BE YOU!

Perhaps you read all this and thought, “they think bundle curation is hard?”, “I make the most beautiful quilts in my sleep”, “I have plenty of time on my hands”. If this is you, or you just have an affinity or knack for curating bundles, then we invite you to participate in our contest to be named our first ever Stash Fabrics Design Star!! Here are the deets…

Round 1 (June 1, 2016 – July 31, 2016)
Initial entries accepted to the contest. To enter the contest, you will curate a custom bundle of fabric in our shop using our design wall feature and either share your design wall on Facebook and/or Pinterest or post a screenshot of your bundle on Instagram and tag #stashfabricsdesignstar and #stashfabricsdesignwall. We will pick the top 12 entries to go onto the next round.

  • You do not have to have an account on our site to create a design wall, but we recommend that you create one to ensure that your design wall is saved between sessions.
  • When viewing a listing in our shop, you will see an option under the price to add that fabric to your design wall. You can access your design wall through a link in the top right corner of your screen.
  • Entry bundles should be 16 fabrics. You do not have to use solids in your bundle unless it suits you.
  • You do not have to be a member of the club to enter.
  • Multiple entries accepted per person.

Round 2-4 (September, October, November 2016)
Each month a new themed contest will begin. We will present the participants with a collage for which they are to develop a bundle from the fabrics in our shop around using the design wall. There will be a vote each round and the bottom 3 people will drop off.

Final Round (January 2017)
Final 3 people will design their best, most kick ass bundle using the fabric from our shop. A vote will determine the grand prize winner to be announced in February 2017.

So what’s in it for you? I mean aside from having your beautiful face added to our amazing graphic and major bragging rights. We thought free fabric was appropriate….
